Consider a Cooper Weathervane for Your Roof
| By: Dan Shilling Whilst it is a popularly held belief that copper does not corrode, this is in fact not the case. Brass, another popular choice of metal for weathervanes, corrodes over time and will lose its shine, whereas copper looks more elegant as it ages. The discoloration of copper is due to the formation of cuprous oxide, which in turn is converted to copper carbonate in moist air, producing an attractive green patina. Copper is therefore an excellent choice for a weathervane, as the metal ages particularly very well and requires very little maintenance to keep it looking at its best and functioning properly. Many models are available with a verdigris finish, showing a beautiful aged cyan coloration giving the impression of maturity. If you do not want to have to get a ladder out from time to time in order to clean and polish your weathervane, aged copper weathervanes are good options. While a lot of individuals desire their copper weathervanes to age with time, there are also designs that offer a coating that hinders it from oxidizing. These coated styles are often guaranteed to not oxidize. Plus, with the covering on the copper, a quick cleaning only requires soap and water. After you have made the decision of what material you would most prefer, you can then focus on selecting a design. Of course, everyone will have a different preference for this but many people choose eagles, roosters or a simple compass directional design. Nowadays however, you need not be limited to the classic models, and many animal designs are on the market including pigs, horses, storks, pelicans, and dolphins. However if not available in the shops, you can always opt for a custom design and have your own model created for you. Large garden stores will certainly have a decent assortment of weathervanes available but you may not always find what you want. Luckily, there are a large number of retailers on the internet offers large assortments of designs and styles that you can order and have delivered directly to you. Whatever your choice of design, copper weathervanes will help to make your home distinct and add class and style to an otherwise dull roof. About the Author: Learn more about antique weathervane.
